An old building in one of the most quiet streets of the Old Town Of Vilnius (8, Asmenos Street) is humming with activity that started in the autumn of 1992.

LANGAS Music Club was the first club in Lithuania where music was started to be performed live. Petras Ubartas Sniegius, LANGAS’ godfather, held a party in an abandoned hall of Sportsmen’s House, at which young and talented Lithuanian musicians appeared.

Primitive sound equipment, an improvised bar, Music Club and melodies played by the musicians were so charming that such parties became a tradition. Interest in the new club was shown both by the lovers of music and the representatives of the mass media who started to call it LANGAS.

The name belongs to the adjacent art gallery which began its activities a bit earlier than the music club. Therefore, well-known artists and musicians attending the club became a kind of attraction for other visitors. The parties turned into professionally-organised club concerts. New sound equipment, excellent service, and cosy interior enabled the club to consolidate its position in Lithuania’s music Music Clublife. At first, concerts were only held on week-ends and could accommodate neither all listeners nor musicians who wished to attend them, therefore LANGAS’ repertoire was finally extended to cover almost all days of the week. Musicians playing jazz, rock, country, blues etc. found their place in the club. A cosy atmosphere of the club (the hall seats ~ 100) stimulates direct communication between performers, listeners, and organisers. Many original ideas for events were born in this environment, such as "Award for the Formation of Lithuanian Nation", "Beatlomania", "My Favourite Film", "Country Saloon", "Guitarists Fiesta", "Drummers Fiesta", "Return Jazz to LANGAS", which have gone down in the history of Lithuanian music. The musicians have initiated quite a lot of charitable actions, namely, "Blues for Rasyte", "We Are Against Drugs", "Musicians Against Violence", "We Are Against AIDS" etc.

Various TV shows are filmed in LANGAS (a video clip competition "Labas", "Rock Weekend", "Rokada", "Country Saloon"); several scenes for a musical "Rojuje irgi sninga" ("It Also Snows in the Paradise") were shot in the club. Presentations of new albums and video clips are held.

The scope of concerts and other events was constantly being expanded and the activity could no longer kluboMusic Club be confined to the club hall: "Summer Nights" in the yard of Youth Theatre, an international street events’ festival "Vilnius’ Days", a revived "Rock March" are only few items from the list of events that were organised with the assistance of LANGAS.

The professionalism of work done by LANGAS’ people is appreciated by other music organisations and commercial firms, which often ask to contribute to events and actions organised by them (festivals "Vilnius Jazz", "Kaunas Jazz", "Vilnius Rock", a jubilee concert "95 Years to Kalnapilis" etc.).

LANGAS Music Club is a member of Baltic Music Network, an international music organisation. During many years of club activities, a great deal of information about Lithuania’s music life, Lithuanian performers and groups has been accumulated.
