Vilnius-the capital
of Lithuania, is one of the largest industrial, scientific and cultural
centers of the Baltic countries. The city is situated in a picturesque
valley at the confluence of the Neris and Vilnia rivers. Old Town of Vilnius
is one of the largest (256 hectares in area) Eastern European old towns.
It was included in UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Monuments. The most
interesting architectural attractions of Vilnius include St. Ann’s church,
Gates of Dawn, Church of Holly Trinity and Basilian Monastery, Vilnius
University, the Cathedral, remains of Upper and Lower castle, Gediminas
tower, Hill of three Crosses, Sts. Peter and Paul’s church.
It is interesting for tourists. KGB Museum. The cells in the basement of the former KGB building have been left almost as they were when prisoners were packed into them 20 to a cell.
Lithuanian cuisine. Visit to Lokys, Marceliukes Kletis, Medininkai, Molinis Asotis, Neringa, Ritos Smukle restaurants is recommended to make acquaintance with Lithuanian cuisine.

Trakai National Park. 3 h tour.
Distance from Vilnius
29 km. Trakai’s vast lakes and fairy tale castle have been inspiring legends
and superstitions for centuries. The most valuable monuments in the park
are the Trakai insular castle and the ancient site of the Old Trakai castle
with a church and village. According to old chronicles, the capital of
Lithuania was transferred in the 14 th century to the Old Trakai castle
by the Grand Duke Gediminas. Later the capital was transferred to the castle,
situated on a peninsula. It became the stronghold and residence of a number
of Grand Dukes of Lithuania.The castle houses an impressive History Museum
at the present time. The environs of Trakai, with old villages and ancient
castles attract not only those interested in history but also numerous
lovers of nature.

Kaunas City Tour. 3 h.
Distance from Vilnius 102 km. Kaunas is the second largest industrial, scientific and cultural centre of Lithuania. Kaunas also is a university town. One of Kaunas architectural attraction is its Town Hall. Other splendid architectural monuments include St. George’s church ensemble, Vytautas church, the Cathedral, Lithuania’s largest house of worship and the Perkunas house, one of the most exquisite examples of Gothic architecture in Lithuania. Among the museums in Kaunas mention should be made of the State Art Museum named after M.K. Chiurlionis and the Museum of devils.

Centre of Europe. Distance from Vilnius 25 km. Europe Park. Distance from
Vilnius 19 km, 17 km from Centre of Europe. 3 h tour.
The geographical centre of Europe lies at 25*19’ longitude and 54*54’latitude, just north from Vilnius, according to the calculations made by the French national Geographic Institute in 1989. At this moment it is only marked by a pile of stones. Since 1993 artists from all over the world came to the sculpture Europe park to create. The result is a collection of 30 sculptures from all over the world displayed over an area of 5 hectares of woods.

Hill of Crosses Distance from Vilnius 220 km. (northwest of Vilnius, northeast
of Shiauliai)
Just outside the industrial city of Shiauliai is situated Hill of Crosses, a national pilgrimage site, where thousands of crosses have been placed in memory of those deported to Siberia. In the Soviet era the crosses were repeatedly buldozzed, but always reappeared. Pope John Paul II honored the site of the Hill of Crosses with his visit in 1993.

The Panemune Castles. Vilnius - Jurbarkas. Distance from Vilnius 200 km.
The castles of Kaunas , Raudondvaris, Seredzius, Veliona are situated along the bank of the Nemunas river. They were built during the Middle Ages and constituted a defence system against the Knights of the Cross Order. Nowadays the Panemune Castles remind of the distant past and make a indelible impression by their beauty and greatness.
